Silver for Gigi and Maria at the Nacra 17 World Championship 2025 in Cagliari!
With exceptional teamwork and consistent top performances, they claimed 2nd place and became Vice World Champions.
Murphys PRO Sailing Team Gigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei achieved an outstanding result
at the World Championship in the Olympic Nacra 17 class in Cagliari, Italy.
In front of their home crowd, they showed tactical brilliance, impressive speed, and nerves of steel – only the British duo John Gimson and Anna Burnet managed to stay just ahead in the thrilling
final race.
The entire Murphy’s Team is incredibly proud of Gigi and Maria – their success is a testament to passion, dedication, and the strong team spirit that has brought them to the top of the
world.

The innovative sailboat project at technical college 1 Steyr in cooperation with the international company Murphys
The innovative sailboat project at technical college 1 Steyr in cooperation with the international company Murphys is an impressive demonstration of how modern, practical and future-orientated vocational training can be today.
Apprentices work on a real high-tech project - the construction of a sailing boat made of fibre composite materials - and experience the combination of theory, practice and innovation at first hand.
The fibre composite technician apprenticeship is still young and is one of the most innovative technical apprenticeships of our time. Technical College 1 in Steyr is currently the only school in Austria to offer this specialised training - a clear educational focus for Upper Austria as a centre of technology and industry. The Steyr Chamber of Commerce strongly supports this project and sees it as a prime example of the quality of dual training in Austria.
Bettina Stelzer-Wögerer, Chairwoman of the Steyr City Economic Chamber, emphasises: "Such projects show what apprenticeships really are today: modern, technologically up-to-date and internationally compatible. Anyone who does an apprenticeship decides in favour of a profession with a future - and this is exactly what is impressively demonstrated here."
The project was realised under the leadership of
Director Harald Ebenhofer and Reinhard Griebler together with the Steyr entrepreneur Horst Glöckner, owner of Murphys.
As part of their training, apprentices learn how to work with highly specialised materials such as those used in international sailing, aviation and vehicle construction. There is a strong focus on sustainability and resource-saving technology.
WKO Steyr-Land District Head Judith Ringer adds: "Apprenticeships must be given greater prominence - as an equal and promising form of education. Projects like this inspire young people and show how diverse and international apprenticeships are today."
With this project, the vocational school is opening doors for talented young people into a high-tech and global professional world - a significant contribution to securing skilled labour in the region and beyond.
